Jungian / Depth Therapy
Caroline Goan, LMFT
Is your life not following the plan you thought it would?
Are you doing all the right things but still not satisfied?
Are you checking the boxes of adulthood and wondering, I’m an adult, now what?
You can have the job, the stability, and the life that looks good on paper but still believe there has to be more.
Maybe you journal and meditate and still repeat the same patterns. Some clients overthink decisions while having a hard time knowing what their next steps are.
I work with clients who want to understand what’s happening underneath those patterns and reconnect with themselves to discover the future they really want.
Jungian/Depth Psychotherapy With Me
My approach is deeply curious, and human. I’m open-hearted, warm, a straight shooter, and a mix of rational and woo woo. This relational approach means we collaborate, but it’s not me telling you what to do.
I get to know your story and together we look at the patterns, both conscious and unconscious, that affect your inner and outer world; work, relationships, and choices.
We explore where those patterns came from and what happened in your past to create them. We also pay attention to the nudges your body gives you. You’ll learn to notice what's happening deep down, have a dialogue with yourself, and build more trust in your intuition so you can react differently.
Clients Come to me When
They’re yearning to truly connect with their authentic selves
They’ve checked all the boxes, but…
Work or life is missing meaning
Not sure what they want
Overthinking takes over
Struggle to trust themselves to make the right decision
Seeking stability and meaning, yet lost with where to start
They keep asking, “Is this it?” or “now what?”
Modalities We May Use
Jungian/Depth Psychology
Explores conscious and unconscious patterns, inner child experiences, dreams, and your personal story to help you understand what's underneath repeating patterns.
Psychodynamic Psychology
Explores how your past and the parts of you just out of view are shaping your present, so they stop running the show.
Somatic Work
Helps you notice what your body is communicating and supports greater connection to your feelings and intuition.
Images And Symbols
Incorporate dream work, active imagination, and your own personal myth to help you explore meaning in ways that go beyond analysis.
Attachment Theory
Helps us understand how early relationships influence current patterns and builds insight into how you relate to yourself and others.
You Don’t Have To Keep Living A Life You Thought You Wanted
Sometimes the life you planned and the life you actually want are not the same.
Together, we can look beneath the expectations, patterns, and decisions that brought you here so you can hear your own inner voice and make choices that feel more like you.
-
Depth or Jungian therapy is about getting curious about what’s happening beneath the surface: the patterns, feelings, and quiet nudges that have been trying to get your attention all along. Rather than treating your anxiety, heartbreak, or restlessness as problems to fix, we listen to them as messengers with something important to say. Along with talking through your story, we might work with dreams, images, and your body’s signals, the language psyche often speaks in. Over time, you’ll learn to hear your own inner wisdom and trust it enough to act on it. It’s not about becoming someone new, but about becoming more fully yourself.
-
Psychodynamic therapy explores how your past and the parts of you just out of view are shaping your present. Together, we get curious about the old stories, feelings, and relationship patterns that still influence how you love, work, and react today. As those patterns come into focus, they lose their grip, and you gain more freedom to choose something new.
-
Somatic therapy brings your body into the conversation, because it often knows what’s happening long before your mind catches up. Together, we’ll notice the tightness in your chest, the knot in your stomach, or the urge to shut down, and get curious about what those sensations are trying to tell you. Over time, you’ll build a deeper connection to your feelings and intuition, and learn to respond to triggers rather than being swept away by them.
Where this work can lead…
Feeling your feelings. You start naming what's happening inside you with real specificity.
Pausing before reacting. You catch yourself in the moment and choose how to respond.
Saying no with clarity. Boundaries still feel uncomfortable sometimes, but now you understand where that discomfort comes from.
Making peace with the unknown. Not knowing yet feels less like failure and more like something unfolding.
Taking up more space. You show up more fully in your relationships, your work, and your life.
Trusting your inner voice. You begin a real dialogue with yourself, and you trust what you hear enough to act on it.
You don’t have to have every answer. We build confidence so you navigate and ride the waves of what life throws at you without anxiety.
About Caroline Goan, LMFT
Hi, I’m Caroline.
My work grew out of my own experience of searching for something beyond checking the boxes. I know what it’s like to have interesting work and still wonder if there’s more. Trusting my intuition eventually led me to psychotherapy.
In sessions, I’m warm, open-hearted, curious, and engaged. I don’t just sit there and nod my head. I ask questions, get interested in your story, and bring together the rational with a little woo woo.
Outside of therapy, I’m a big reader, especially literary and historical fiction and some fantasy. I also love biking and walking around the lakes in Minneapolis, exploring new restaurants, and spending time with my family.
If you’re ready to take the first step, let’s connect.
Availability: I provide in-person therapy in the Twin Cites, and virtual therapy via telehealth across Minnesota and New York state.

Mostly, we'll get to know each other. I'll want to hear your story, what brought you here, and what you're hoping might shift. We'll start to shape some goals together, though they're allowed to change as we go. You don't need to have it all figured out, or even know where to begin.
-
Both. If you'd like to meet face to face, my office is in a cozy spot near Lake of the Isles at 2124 Dupont Ave S. in Minneapolis. If online works better for your life, we can meet virtually from wherever you're most comfortable. Some people like to mix it up, and that's welcome too.
