Anxiety Therapy for

Individuals in their 20s and 30s

Caroline Goan, LMFT

Do you look calm on the outside while feeling anything but on the inside?

Most of us are taught to treat anxiety like a malfunction: something to manage, push down, or fix as fast as possible. I see it differently. Anxiety is often a messenger, a signal that something inside you is asking to be heard. During my own quarter-life crisis, I learned what can happen when you stop fighting that signal and start listening to it. That's the work I now get to do with others.

Is your mind always running three steps ahead of you?
Have the ways you used to cope stopped working?

Anxiety in your 20s and 30s can be sneaky. It can look like overachieving, people-pleasing, replaying conversations at 2 a.m., or feeling like you should have it all figured out by now. Maybe you've tried the breathing apps, the journaling, the productivity hacks, and they help for a minute. Then the same feelings come right back.

I work with people who are ready to look underneath the anxiety, get curious about what it's trying to tell them, and build a different relationship with themselves.

Clients Come to Me When

  • Anxiety has become all-consuming

  • Their thoughts won't slow down, especially at night

  • They're overthinking every decision, big or small

  • They feel like they're performing a life instead of living it

  • Relationships feel harder than they should

  • A breakup, job change, or big move has knocked them off balance

  • They're exhausted from holding it all together

  • They know they can't keep coping this way

Anxiety Therapy with Me

My approach is curious, warm, and very human. I'm a straight shooter, and I'm a mix of rational and woo woo. I won't tell you how to fix your anxiety, and I won't pretend there's a perfect set of steps to make it disappear. What I offer is a place to slow down and actually listen.

Together, we'll get to know your anxiety: when it shows up, what it protects you from, and where it first learned to be so loud. We'll look at the patterns, both conscious and unconscious, that shape your work, relationships, and choices. We'll also pay attention to your body, which often knows what's happening before your mind does.

Over time, you'll learn to notice the anxiety without being swept away by it, have a real dialogue with yourself, and trust what you hear enough to respond differently.

Therapeutic Modalities We May Use

Jungian/Depth Psychology
Explores conscious and unconscious patterns, dreams, and your personal story to understand what your anxiety might be trying to tell you.

Psychodynamic Psychology
Explores how your past and the parts of you just out of view are shaping your present, so they stop running the show.

Somatic Work
Helps you notice where anxiety lives in your body and builds a calmer, more trusting connection with your feelings and intuition.

Images and Symbols
Brings in dream work, active imagination, and your own personal myth to explore your inner world in ways that go beyond overthinking.

Attachment Theory
Helps us understand how early relationships shaped the ways you seek safety, and how that shows up in your anxiety today.

Your Anxiety Doesn't Have to Run the Show

Anxiety isn't a sign that something is wrong with you. Often it's a sign that something in you wants attention. Together, we can slow down, listen to what's underneath, and help you find a steadier, more trusting relationship with yourself.

Where This Work Can Lead…

  • Anxiety that feels quieter and less in charge

  • A steadier trust in yourself

  • Better sleep

  • Making decisions without spiraling

  • More ease with uncertainty

  • Feeling closer to the people you love

  • More room to enjoy your life

"You don't need every answer. Together we build the trust to ride the waves of what life brings, without letting anxiety steer the ship."

About Caroline

Hi, I’m Caroline.

My work grew out of my own experience of searching for something beyond checking the boxes. I know what it’s like to have interesting work and still wonder if there’s more. Trusting my intuition eventually led me to psychotherapy.

In sessions, I’m warm, open-hearted, curious, and engaged. I don’t just sit there and nod my head. I ask questions, get interested in your story, and bring together the rational with a little woo woo.

Outside of therapy, I’m a big reader, especially literary and historical fiction and some fantasy. I also love biking and walking around the lakes in Minneapolis, exploring new restaurants, and spending time with my family.

If you’re ready to take the first step, let’s connect.

Availability: I provide in-person therapy in the Twin Cites, and virtual therapy via telehealth across Minnesota and New York state.
